Event Recap:TASIS once again hosted the NISSA Badminton Singles Championships on campus in our Palestra. Although there were only three teams competing, with more than 40 competitors, the competition remained strong. Powerhouse American School of Milan (ASM) returned with a very strong boys team, including one of the best club players in Milan, and racked up a lot of team points, placing just as many players into the quarterfinals as the Tigers. Freshman Matt Meng '21 played his best match against the eventual champion from ASM. Each game was closely contested and each shot exciting to watch. The match went into a crucial third game that proved too much for Meng, but he left with a lot of confidence and valuable experience.
Our Lady Tigers were on fire. Led by veterans Maria Veronica (MV) Ramos '19, Margarita Ukleina '19, Stacey Stanislava '19, and Alice Xi '18, our girls did not lose a single game in the Round Robin preliminary matches. At the end, they ended up playing against each other for the medals. Stanislava showed her finesse and racket skills to regain her title as champion. Ukleina and Ramos continued their streak of medals from the previous weekend.
Overall, this tournament gave many of our players opportunities to showcase their strengths and test out their newly trained skills. Some of our first-timers like Oliver Stufft '21 and Yuka Tanaka '19 got their first wins tonight and gained valuable experience and confidence in their abilities. At the same time, all are beginning to bond as a team and support one another. The Tigers are now gearing up for the SGIS Championships and have high expectations. Watch out!
