TASIS hosted the inaugural European Sports Conference (ESC) Badminton Championships in the Palestra on Saturday, February 3. Teams from Lausanne, Zurich, and Milan competed for individual medals and team trophies in both the Singles and Doubles tournaments. The Tigers knew this was going to be their toughest tournament to date but were confident in our abilities. However, due to the long weekend and the flu traveling around campus, only half the was team available to compete.
The most dedicated and hardworking players gave up one day of their long weekend to represent TASIS, and they did so with pride and composure. Margarita Ukleina '19 fought her way into the finals, earning valuable points for the team with her first silver medal in Girls Singles. She later teamed up with our powerful smasher, MV Ramos '19, in the Girls Doubles tournament, and the two of them were unstoppable en route to a gold medal. Both players were named to the ESC Championships All-Star Team.
In the end, with the combined efforts of the few boys and powerful girls, TASIS captured the second-place ESC trophy. The team will next compete for the NISSA Championships in the Palestra on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 7.
