Academics: Spring Semester and Schedule Changes
The first semester ended yesterday, January 25. Student report cards will be available the week of February 5.
Students in semester classes will switch on Monday, January 29. This includes American Section students switching Art and Music classes and Italian Section students switching Scrittura and Arte classes. All other section or class moves are handled on an individual basis, and students should have already been informed of any changes.
Math Help Center: Starting the week of February 5, the Math Help Center days will be changed: Tuesdays will be moved to Mondays. It will now be open on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays during lunch recess.
MS Assemblies and Advisor Meetings
On Monday, January 22, students in grades 7 and 8 completed the Winter Adventure Survey regarding equipment and their level of skiing/snowboarding.
The Assembly on Wednesday, January 24, and the Advisor meeting on Thursday, January 25, were devoted to academic and personal goal setting.
Photography Exhibitions on Display This Weekend
Winter Photography Exhibition
The TASIS Cultural Events Program and Fine Arts Department are pleased to present the Winter Photography Exhibition in the Palmer Center this weekend. The exhibition opens this afternoon at 16:00 (refreshments will be served) and will run all weekend. It will feature photographs from more than 70 students and is open to the public. Portraits taken by TASIS students will also be featured in Villa de Nobili throughout the weekend and beyond.
How Did You Meet? Photography Exhibition
How Did You Meet?, an exhibition of photographs by High School Math Department Chair James Shields, will be on display in the Horst Dürrschmidt Gallery in the Şahenk Fine Arts Center through March 5. All are welcome to attend an opening reception in the gallery this evening from 17:00–18:00.
The Cultural Events Program aims to provide members of the School community with rich and meaningful artistic experiences throughout the course of each school year. There will be a number of cultural events on and off the TASIS campus this winter and spring. Please see the Cultural Events calendar on the TASIS website for details about upcoming events.
After-School Sports and Activities
Ski Race in Morgins: The second ski race of the season will take place at Haut Lac-Morgins on Monday, January 29. The racers will depart at 12:30 on Monday, January 29, and will return on Tuesday, January 30, around 22:30.
MS Girls Basketball: Congratulations to the players and coaches for their excellent game against ASM on Tuesday! The next tournament starts today, with the girls playing today and tomorrow against ISSL teams (ISZL, ISB, ICSZ, ZIS) in Basel. They will return on Saturday evening. Go Tigers!
The MS Boys Basketball team will participate in the ISSL tournament at ISZL in Hünenberg Zug tomorrow, January 27. They will depart from TASIS at 6:30 and return on Saturday evening. Go Tigers!
MS Ski and Snowboard Club: The second outing will be on Sunday, January 28. The bus will depart from the main parking lot at 7:15 and return at approximately 18:00. The destination for this Sunday is Savognin. In case of an emergency on the day of the outing, contact one of the TASIS Ski and Snowboard Club leaders at 079 393 6196.
Spring After-School Sports and Activities begin on Monday, March 5, and end on Friday, May 11. Here are the spring options:
- Track and Field: Mondays and Wednesdays, 16:00-17:30
- MS Girls Volleyball (Competitive)
- Music Band
- MS Weekend Climbing Club (four weekends in the spring)
- Choir (will continue from the winter season)
- MS Musical: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 16:00–18:00. Performances will be May 18–20.

Wine and Hors d'oeuvres Reception on February 7
Lynn Fleming Aeschliman, Chairman of the TASIS Board of Directors, and Christopher Nikoloff, Headmaster, cordially invite all TASIS parents to a Wine and Hors d'oeuvres Reception in the Palmer Center on Wednesday, February 7, from 18:00–19:30.

Memorial Mass for Mrs. Fleming
The entire TASIS community is welcome to attend a Memorial Mass held in memory of M. Crist Fleming at the Chiesa di Sant'Abbondio at 8:30 AM on Thursday, February 8.
MS Valentine’s Day Celebration
On Friday, February 9, MS students will celebrate Valentine’s Day. The celebration will take place in the Palestra from 19:00–20:30. Students are asked to wear a piece of clothing or an accessory that is red or pink. Dress code is casual smart (no t-shirts, ties are not required, and elegant jeans or trousers are allowed). Students are required to arrive by 19:00 and will not be allowed to leave until 20:30. This special event is organized by the Event Planners Service Learning Group.
International Week: February 12–16
The TASIS community will host its annual International Week in February. Please see the MS events for the week. There will be themed lunch and dinners in De Nobili for MS and HS students every day of that week.
Parade of Flags: Please note that due to limited space in the Palestra, parents are kindly asked not to attend the Parade of Flags on Monday. (The event will be filmed and posted on the TASIS website afterward. We will also send the video link to all parents when it is ready.)
International Brunch: Our annual MS International Brunch will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 9:05 to 11:00. To make this event a successful one, family participation is essential! We would appreciate any delicious homemade traditional dishes you’d like to share with our MS community.
MS World Cup/Soccer Tournament: The Poverty Awareness Service Learning Group is holding the MS International Week Football Cup for the sixth consecutive year. Join us as teams from Scandinavia to South America come together once again in the spirit of healthy competition and good sportsmanship. To form a team, you need to assemble six or seven students, all of whom must share something in common, and you must have at least one active female player. Registration fees are CHF 5 per player. The winning team will have its name inscribed on our official trophy and receive a special prize. All proceeds will go to our service learning partner agency, One World Futbol, an organization that provides indestructible footballs to disadvantaged youth in various countries in an effort to encourage sports participation and character development around the world. Please see Mr. Alava, Mr. Lill, or any Poverty Awareness student member to sign up.
Alternate Schedule: We will be running the following alternate schedule for International Week. All activities except for Drama (on Thursday) will be canceled during International Week.

MS Winter Adventure for 7th and 8th Grade (February 26–March 2)
MS Winter Adventure in St. Moritz is required for all 7th and 8th grade students, as it is a core part of the MS Curriculum and the TASIS experience. Please see the packing list.
Snowboarding during MS Winter Adventure: Please take note that during MS Winter Adventure, Beginner Snowboarding classes are not offered due to safety precautions.
If you plan to take your child directly to the hotel in St-Moritz on February 26 or pick him or her up on March 2, please email your child’s advisor and Ms. Breton with the specific information at least five days before departure. If your child is a day student and needs to take medication during Winter Adventure, it is important that you talk to the advisor beforehand. Two school nurses will also be available on site.
MS Spring Academic Travel for Grade 6 (February 26–28)
MS Academic Travel is part of the TASIS curriculum and is required for all 6th grade students. This spring the students will visit Zurich. Please see the packing list.
There is a nice pool at the hotel, and it is supervised. Guests are required to have flip flops and a swimming cap.
If you plan to take your child directly to the hotel in Zurich on February 26 or pick him or her up on February 28, please email your child’s advisor and Ms. Breton with the specific information at least five days before departure.
If your child is a day student and needs to take medication during Spring Academic Travel, it is important that you talk to the advisor beforehand.
