MS Assemblies and Advisor Meetings
Kindness was the theme of the MS Assembly and advisor meetings this week. During the assembly, Director of School Counseling, Ms. Mary Cate Hauenstein, explained how kindness makes us happier, is good for the heart and the brain, improves relationships, and is contagious. The students were encouraged to perform three random acts of kindness. Ms. Hauenstein also introduced the Four Gates of Communication by teaching the students to pose the following questions before communicating:
Here is the full presentation form the MS Assembly.
During advisor meetings, students reflected on the acts of kindness and how kindness made them feel through a writing exercise and a guided discussion. Each student then shared one thing they appreciate about the person who was sitting beside him or her.

MS Service Learning News
Hope and Homes for Children (Romania): Bake Sale on January 31
This week, the SL group Hope and Homes for Children discussed how gratitude and service are connected, and extended the scope of their vision to other areas of the world that might need help more urgently. Globally, the group’s attention is drawn to the bushfires raging across the continent of Australia. For the moment, the group has decided to place a temporary hold on their efforts for HHC and focus on raising funds for the Australian Red Cross. They don't have specific funds for the fires, so the SL students will do their part to assist them the best they can by having a bake sale on Friday, January 31, in De Nobili at lunchtime. Hope and Homes for Children would appreciate any baked goods parents care to donate or funds they may offer to support the Red Cross. Please contact faculty leaders Mr. Alava or Ms. Sartorelli for more information.

These new bins have been set in front of Belvedere, the Snack Bar, de Nobili, Hadsall, and Focolare. They will be available for use on Monday, January 20, and E-Club members will instruct MS students on the proper use during Monday’s advisor block.
