Lynn Fleming Aeschliman, M. Crist Fleming’s daughter and Chairman of the TASIS Board of Directors, continues an annual tradition.
The TASIS High School and Middle School held a special Founder’s Day Assembly on the afternoon of September 13 to celebrate the incredible life of M. Crist Fleming, who founded The American School in Switzerland in 1956. The celebration included inspiring remarks from Headmaster Christopher Nikoloff, an engaging story about how Mrs. Fleming’s life intersected with history (narrated by three high school students), impressive speeches from current and former TASIS students, several excellent musical performances, an excerpt from the iconic MCF film Pushing All the Buttons, and the annual tradition of tossing yellow rose petals into the MCF Piazza Fountain.

The celebration of Mrs. Fleming’s life continued on Monday, September 17, with the School’s annual Class Outings—a cornerstone of the TASIS experience since the early days of the School, as Mrs. Fleming loved nothing more than to pack picnic lunches, pile students into buses or vans, and head to the mountains. Freshmen spent the day at Monte Tamaro, sophomores hiked to a lakeside park in Figino, juniors enjoyed Valle Verzasca, and seniors visited Alpe Cardada. Middle School students also took part in the Class Outings, with grade six exploring Gandria, grade seven visiting Monte Tamaro, and great eight hiking Monte San Salvatore.
