Dear Families,
As we shared earlier this month, we have made the difficult decision to not run the 2020 TASIS Summer Programs. We determined that it would be impossible to deliver the authentic TASIS experience due to visa and travel restrictions, major construction on our campus, and other factors beyond our control. We felt it would be best to instead turn our attention to planning for the fall of 2020 and summer of 2021 while focusing our more immediate efforts on campus improvements and renovations that would not be possible if we were running our usual full programs.
Over the past few weeks, however, we have heard from members of our community that a valuable alternative would be to offer academic courses to our High School students this summer. We convened a team of academic leaders to discuss this possibility and are happy to report that we are ready to move forward with the launch of the TASIS Summer Institute. We are also pleased to announce that Jim Shields, our grades 6–12 Math Department Chair, will serve as the TASIS Summer Institute Academic Dean.
To learn more, please review the 2020 TASIS Summer Institute Academic Course Offerings and Master Schedule.
Some key elements of the program include the following:
Please click on the links below to register for courses, noting that full descriptions can be found in the course offerings document referenced above. All questions can be directed to tsi@tasis.ch. It is very important to note that these courses are certainly not required for students to be highly successful at TASIS next year. We are also in no way offering them to make up for any perceived ground lost after we transitioned to distance learning this spring, as all of our teachers and academic leaders worked extremely hard to deliver our full curriculum remotely and ensure that our students would not fall behind. We are simply offering these courses to provide an opportunity for students who are looking to stay engaged over the summer and hone their skills in advance of the 2020–2021 academic year—much in the same way we would in our traditional Summer Programs.
Please also note that information about the safety protocols that will be in place on campus during the TASIS Summer Institute will be shared in advance of the opening week of classes.
Thank you for your time and consideration, and I hope you are all enjoying a nice start to the summer!
Best wishes,
Christopher Nikoloff |
